Project Services > News > Interserve hands over hospital five weeks early Interserve Hands Over New Hospital Five Weeks Early 12 Dec 2002 Interserve Project Services has handed over the £66m Neath Port Talbot Hospital in South Wales to clients Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust five weeks ahead of programme. The new building replaces both Neath General and Port Talbot Hospitals and gives the local community access to the very latest in healthcare facilities and technology. The hospital provides 270 beds, outpatients' and day hospital facilities, rehabilitation, palliative care and a full range of diagnostic services. The facilities also include a mental health unit. Wards and departments, situated on three storeys, lead off the main entrance's towering glass atrium which houses shops, a restaurant and a coffee bar. Chief Executive of Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust Paul Williams commented: "We have been tremendously impressed with the efficiency and professionalism shown by all involved in constructing the hospital and bringing us to this key stage in the face of an extremely demanding work programme." Interserve's Regional Manager Andy Edmonds, head of the company's South Wales operations, added: " We are very proud to have been involved in such a successful project, which continues our long association with healthcare construction in the region." Since the handover patients and staff have been busy settling into their new home and there was much celebration when Neath Port Talbot Hospital witnessed the birth of its very first baby in early December. |
