Marine Works The marine works consisted of three basic elements as follows: Permanent Structures: Design and construction of boarding platform piled foundations, restraint towers' piled foundations - including box beam supports, bank seat structure - piled dolphin structure for brow support, and fixed bridges - access to linkspans for pier pontoon. Temporary Structures: Temporary platforms for construction of the Wheel across the River Thames. Pier Pontoon - Collision Protection System: Due to the Wheel's position over the River Thames, a collision protection system safeguards the structure from errant vessels. This is achieved by a combination of the pier pontoon, brows and collision protection booms. The design of this structure is unique on the Thames and is designed to resist up to 13-mega joules energy from errant vessels. Additional responsibilities included the provision of crane barges, workboats and safety boats for other trade contractors and the design and construction of the capsule installation platform.
