The work involved widening and resurfacing of the circulatory carriageway and approach roads, installation of MOVA traffic signals, two number pedestrian crossings, application of anti-skid surfacing, upgrading of existing streetlighting, construction of new and replacement drainage to accommodate widened carriageway and landscaping.

The scheme was carried out in and around the existing highway on a very busy roundabout. Extensive traffic management ensured impact to traffic flow was minimised with off-peak closures to carry out the majority of the work.

Extensive planning ensured that the traffic management was not confusing to the motorist, and included: -

·        On line works having the traffic in the adjacent lane with appropriate safety zone protection to the workforce

·        Carriageway resurfacing with varying degrees of reconstruction

·        New lanes added to all approach roads and the roundabout

·        24hr traffic signal installation which incorporated MOVA5 and pedestrian crossings

·         All street lighting was replaced, with cables laid in a fully ducted network

·         Barriers erected in accordance with IRRRS to protect new traffic signs

·         Installation of new signage utilising lattix and standard posts

·        Coordination of statutory undertakers involved in amendments/protection to their network

·        Installation of new kerb drainage system removing all gullies from the live carriageway

·        Minimising disruption during construction
