Project Services > Civils > A5 Weeford to Fazeley Improvements A5 Weeford to Fazeley Improvements This project - the creation of a new, 5-kilometre section of the A5 north of Birmingham - was awarded under the Highways Agency's Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) programme. Works were undertaken with consortium partners Hanson, the surfacing contractor and designer Parsons Brinckerhoff. The original stretch of the A5, from its junction with the A38 at Weeford to the Fazeley/Two Gates/Wilnecote Bypass, was single carriageway.
The new works included the design and construction of a new, two-lane, all-purpose dual carriageway to the north of the existing road and the rebuilding of the A5/A38 junction to allow A38 traffic to pass straight through in a "grade separation". The current stretch of the A5 remains in place to serve the local community. As part of the road's construction, Interserve Civils undertook environmental works and created associated structures such as bridges and culverts. Initial works began on site in spring 2004 and were completed October 2005. Procurement Route: Partnering, ECC Option C Target Cost, ECI Sector: Roads Value: £40 million |
