Key Responsibilities
· Review and administer contracts and modifications; prepare contract review records and obtain necessary management approvals.
· Lead negotiations of contracts and changes with customers.
· The compilation and agreement of claims with clients.
· To promptly manage to its conclusion in consultation with the commercial director any adjudication/arbitration notice or court action to be issued by or received against the company.
· To ensure the full and proper implementation of the company's procedures.
· To co-operate with the Business Unit's Managing Estimator, give contractual advice.
· To liaise with the Business Unit's Director/Manager regarding the day to day commercial administration of contracts to ensure the financial success of construction operations and to keep the Commercial Director informed of all material events.
· To establish management systems that will ensure contract requirements are met in an expedient manner by so as to protect the company's position in its trading activities.
· To set a professional and exacting standard for all subordinate staff and to lead by example in all aspects of the day to day management of the business Unit's activities.
· Initially working with the companies General/Commercial Managers, Quantity Surveyors and Estimators which may in time lead to supervising a small reporting team.
Key skills/knowledge
· Active participant in professional activities of construction related bodies e.g. RICS, IOB, CECA.
· Logical and creative ability in resolving problems.
· Ability to interpret different forms of contract and draft contractual advice notes.
· Competent and proven negotiator.
· Ability to communicate effectively to a range of people both in written and verbal form.
· Ability to adapt, understand and manipulate construction programme with relevance to critical path analysis.
· Experienced in risk assessment and valuation processes.
· Experienced in dispute resolution procedures.
· Knowledge of cost planning techniques (desirable)
· Ability to collate, verify and manage cost and value information.
· Ability to establish teams and to take the lead when required.
· Comprehensive understanding of the principles of contract law and an ability to interpret contract terms.
· Good appreciation of the role of risk mitigation/corporate governance.
· Comprehensive knowledge and experience within the construction industry.
· Understanding of production Budgets, monitoring of financial performance and assessing trends.
Relevant Experience
· Experienced in the management and resolution of disputes.
· Experienced in producing claims and extension of time documentation.
· Experienced in the management, mentoring and developing staff.
· To have successfully carried out all commercial management functions on a diverse range of construction projects.
· Proven ability to act in a senior management role.
Additional information
This post is fixed term for a period of two years. A full driving licence is required.
