Senior Estimator

Summary of role

 

To prepare and submit tenders typically ranging in value from £5m to £15m. Experience of traditional and non-traditional forms of procurement, including design and build will be required, along with the preparation of budgets and cost plans. You will use your construction knowledge and commercial experience in conjunction with other members of the bid team to ensure competitive bids.

 

Key Tasks

 

·         Protect the commercial interests of the company.

·         Assist in developing competitive design solutions to client's briefs with input from the professional team and subcontractors.

·         Adopt a proactive approach to value engineering throughout the design phase of design and build projects.

·         Keep up to date with the latest construction techniques and Building Regulations.

·         Ensure a professional approach when dealing with Clients and their representatives.

·         Prepare budgets and cost plans.

·         Visit site to identify site specific risks.

·         Ensure a smooth handover of the project to the site team.

·         Thoroughly appraise tender documentation when received to identify risk and opportunity.

·         Contribute to the design development process and attend design team meetings.

·         Manage the sub contract and material enquiry process.

·         Initiate technical queries and ensure design sufficiently developed to ensure accurate costings.

·         Pricing of rates from first principles.

·         Adjudication and comparison of sub contractor quotations.

·         Compilation of project preliminaries.

·         Risk management throughout the tender period and preparation of the tender Risk Register.

·         Highlight and discuss major commercial issues with the Estimating Manager at Tender adjudication.

·         Assist the design manager in preparing the Contractors Proposals for design and build projects.

·         Prepare and submit tender documentation for traditional projects.

 

 

Key skills/Experience

 

·         Effective communication skills (written and verbal).

·         Ability to plan and organise.

·         Creative and innovative approach to problem solving.

·         Ability to work independently and autonomously.

·         Effective team player.

·         Ability to lead and develop others.

·         Comprehensive experience in estimating for a main contractor.

·         Causeway or similar estimating software

·         Competent use of Microsoft packages e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook

·         Knowledge of Powerproject, Teamplan or similar

·         Well developed Technical Construction knowledge.

·         Knowledge of current Building Regulations.

 

 

Qualifications

·         Construction/Surveying - HND/Degree or similar
