Quantity Surveyors

Managing all costs from tendered project award through to final account to ensure costs are minimised and enhancing value for money, whilst achieving required standards of quality in a safe environment. Position will be part of a site-based team of building professionals.

Key Tasks

  • Initiate and report on cost plan for project; 
  • Subcontract post award enquiries, orders, measures, valuations and final accounts, including contractual notices;
  • Client valuations, variation costings, value engineering/management final account, including contractual notices.
  • Working with Project Manager to control all financial and contractual matters on site;
  • Reporting progress of accounts on a monthly basis to senior management.
  • On larger projects supervise one or more assistants, but initially to work with project team as the Project Quantity Surveyor.

Skills

  • Numeric, analytical and presentation skills;
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel and Word as a minimum;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and subcontractors;
  • Work independently as part of a site team with focus on programmed deadlines and cost parameters;
  • On site roles dealing with S/C orders and controlling all aspects of project surveying role.

Qualifications, Training and Experience
  • Minimum of HNC/HND in construction based learning;
  • CSCS card, CITB safety training, MS Systems;
  • Experience of responsibility for projects in excess of £1m as a minimum;
  • Experience of a similar post with contractor or be capable of moving from an assistant up to project Quantity Surveyor level;

  • Working knowledge of JCT and NEC forms of contract;

  • Cost control and reporting on cost/value forecasting.
