Operations Manager

Summary of role

To be responsible for the overall management of the operational team(s) and to undertake an active client liaison role requiring high level interpersonal skills. Act as manager and mentor to single project Facilities Manager(s)/Management Team(s).

 

Act a lead FM contact at Plymouth Schools.

 

Overall responsibility for ensuring the delivery and direction of the services to the contract(s) and achievement of agreed margins.

To undertake project development work and share good practice across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Client & SPV Liaison - To build and maintain positive partnership with School, LEA, SPV and internal clients.
  2. Contract Management - To meet all contractual milestones (inc PPM) minimal service deductions, regular consultation with network (internal and external) to discuss best practice.
  3. Commercial Management - NoC are priced accurately, and submitted within agreed timescales and subsequent works to be carried out in a timely manner; clear understanding of obligations of paymech & output spec requirements.
  4. Personnel - To have a competent and motivated team; regular performance reviews in conjunction with annual appraisals; reduced sickness levels; succession and development plans in place.
  5. Finance - To meet agreed margin,
  6. H&S - IFR to be less than agreed target; ensure all incidents to be reported and investigated appropriately;
  7. Quality & business systems - To obtain and maintain registration to BM Trada triple standard; have relevant local operating procedures that are embedded with all team members; joint contingency plans in place
  8. Business Development - Sources of additional income / cost savings investigated and implemented where possible i.e. selling caretaking services, energy initiatives, third party activities.  Interserve Education to be viewed as a valued member of the project and local community,
  9. Undertake project development work as agreed with the Facilities Management Director.
  10. Undertake any other such duties as may be reasonably requested within the purview of the role.
  11. Resonsible for supervising:    subcontractors/Suppliers - various. Mobile team, School-based employees ie caretakers, cleaners, caterers, Others: as per project line management structures                                                                                   

Key Skills/Knowledge

 

·         Excellent communicator, both written and verbal.

·         Strong commercial awareness / experience.

·         Leadership.

·         Self-motivated.

·         High achiever.

·         Degree in building studies or facilities management or similar discipline.

·         Recognised technical qualification or suitable formal experience.

·         Management training.

·         Empathy with client.

·         Personable and approachable.

·         Flexible.

·         Strong Commercial Management.

·         Local knowledge/networking skills.

·         Finance recording and reporting; cashflow forecasting, management of budgets.

·         Good level of IT literacy and application.

·         People management at all levels; recruitment, development, discipline, grievance etc.

 

Relevant Experience

 

·         Project management.

·         Commercial Management.

·         Comprhensive experience as a Manager.

·         Experience of Private Finance Initiative/Public Partnership Projects .

·         Experience of Facilities Management/Property.

·         Experience of the Education/Public sector.

·         Experience of forward planning ie PPM programmes.

·         Hard and soft Facilities Management service provision.

 

Additional information

 

This post is full time and permanent. Full driving licence will be required and a willingness to travel is essential.
