Managing Quantity Surveyor

Summary of role

To successfully deliver prompt financial completion of projects, by ensuring the deployment of a competent commercial service operating in compliance with Company Procedures.  Effective management of the supply chain. 

Key Responsibilities

  • In partnership with another Managing Quantity Surveyor, lead and motivate a department of over 30 Quantity Surveying staff, whilst maintaining high standards and clear objectives.
  • Work closely with the Operations manager to ensure clear budgets and commercial procedures are implemented and adhered to on sites.
  • Provide commercial input into the pre-construction process by assisting Estimating department as necessary to secure profitable work with all risks being fully evaluated.
  • Meet all financial and budgetary deadlines and presenting these to senior management in a clear and concise manner.
  • Keep abreast of all legal and contractual obligations, and act appropriately.
  • Ensure clear customer focus at all times during the life of the Contract.
  • Identify business development opportunities with existing and new clients.
  • Manage allocation of QS resources and identify recruitment needs to meet both current and anticipated workload.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures in line with company policy and provide input into the continuous improvement and development of such procedures.
  • Comfortable communication with company directors and accurately reporting back to meet strict deadlines.
  • Maintain a strong cash flow into the business by tracking and monitoring application, certification and payment invoices.
  • Maintain and develop good relationships with all key members of the supply chain.
  • Ensuring all staff receives an annual assessment and that all development and training needs are implemented with the appropriate in house departments.
  • Seeking and developing ongoing continuous improvement of department and wider company.
  • Provide support and wider promotion of affiliated companies in Qatar and the other International operations. 
  • To develop strategy for problem resolution and convey this clearly to colleagues.
  • Develop an excellent working relationship with all work colleagues and Clients.

Qualifications & Specialist Skills

 

·         Degree (or equivalent) in appropriate subject.

·         Professional membership of recognised institution e.g. RICS / CIOB.

·         Sound understanding of Construction Contracts and their Administration.

·         Detailed understanding of Construction budgeting, forecasting and cost value reconciliation.

 

Relevant Experience

 

  • Enthusiastic individual with experience of running a large department of multinational expatriate staff.

·         Building Contracting Experience in a similar role within a company turning-over in excess of GBP 200 million (desirable).

·         Detailed Working knowledge of all procurement routes including Design and Build/Lump sum/Re-measured and Cost reimbursement.

·         Worked overseas in a multi-national environment (desirable).

 

Additional information

 

This post is fixed term for a period of two years.  A full driving licence is required.

Qualifications & Specialist Training

 

·         Degree (or equivalent) in appropriate subject.
