Applications Delivery Manager

Summary of role

 

To ensure that the IT department are delivering IT solutions through the effective planning of resources, adherence to business requirements and are implemented to an agreed IT project portfolio.

 

To promote and encourage an ethos of “Continual Improvement” throughout the IT department teams.

Key Responsibilities

 

1.       In conjunction with the Head of IT, to develop, deliver and review the IT department strategy.

2.      Provide portfolio management of all IT implementation projects, ensuring IPSL resources are working closely with suppliers, adhering to existing controls and delivering business objectives within time, Quality and budget criterias.

3.      To act as escalation for any IT project related issues and be accountable for the successful delivery of all IT related projects and initiatives.

4.      Provide leadership and direction to the Solutions, Projects and Development Teams.

5.       To develop, maintain and monitor the IT projects portfolio ensuring that agreed resource levels are applied to each project.

6.      To present Project progress both internally within the department and outwardly to appropriate business groups, in particular the IT Steering Committee.

7.      You will be required to mentor, manage and develop existing Team Managers aiding in the development of any department specific roadmaps.

8.      Continue to establish relationships with key business stakeholders promoting the IT department’s strategy and providing a value-add focal point for any continuous service improvements. 

9.      To promote Best Practice and Quality both internally and externally.

10.   To provide guidance and consultation to Senior Managers and Directors relating to IT projects delivery.

11.   To deputise, when required, for the Head of IT.

12.   To supervise: Development team x 3, Business Solutions team x 4, Project Management x 2

 

Key skills

 

·         Flexible working approach.

·         Ability to manage a mixed workload of proactive management activities and reactive stakeholder support activities.

·         Able to communicate, both written and verbal, to main board members relating to IT issues and strategy.

·         Ability to interpret business priorities and understand the business criticality of technology and applications.

·         As well as being an inspirational, positive and motivated leader you will be delivery focused.

·         Excellent Manager of third party suppliers.

·         Numerate, analytical and a strong presenter.

 

 

Relevant Experience

 

·         Excellent Stakeholder management skills. 

·        Experience in being able to identify new projects and then to negotiate an order of delivery that meets business expectations and is aligned with the availability of internal resources.

·        Extensive experience of planning and implementing complex IT projects, to a user community of 1500+ users, that are distributed nationally.

·         Excellent track record of managing people and developing strong relationships utilising solid communication skills to deal with business users and working closely with senior management to translate business strategies into business solutions.

·        Have a very good appreciation, and understanding, of how a development department operates and what appropriate development methods could be applied (i.e. Agile). 

·         Strong background in working as, or within, a Business Analysis function.

·        Demonstrable experience in commercially negotiating IT products/services with 3rd party suppliers, up to a value of £1,000,000.

·         Good estimation skills that will be used for guidance on potential timescales and budgets.

·         Previous experience of the management of financial controls, including spend against budget and cost recovery where applicable.

·        Exposure to representing a local IS department to a Group IS function.
