Project Services > Building > Regional Building > Hattersley Schools PFI Hattersley Schools PFI for Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council The Hattersley Schools project comprised three brand new schools - Pinfold and Arundale Primary Schools and Alder High School. Pinfold and Arundale The two primary schools (for 365 and 220 pupils respectively) were completed following a construction programme which had to contend with tight timescales and extreme weather conditions. All that effort proved worthwhile, as staff and pupils alike are enjoying their brand new facilities. At Arundale the extensive, dedicated IT suite has proved to be a big hit. (Photo shows Arundale's nursery and infants' playground, complete with painted floor games). Alder High School Alder High School is the largest project within Hattersley PFI. The building, overlooking the town of Hyde, provides 11,000m2 of floor space. There are new sports facilities, including an artificial sports pitch and a full size grassed football pitch bordered by a running track. The site does have its unusual features. The topography and levels of external works required the use of large plant for bulk excavation. It also proved to be the home of the Great Crested Newt. Newt ponds, complete with dry stone walls, were built to ensure that the environment of this endangered species was well protected.
