Hadley Opens Its Doors

18 Sep 2006

On Friday the 8th of September, the Lord Mayor of Telford officially opened the first phase of the Hadley Learning Community to both teachers and children.

Only days before a mix of children from different year groups flocked through the doors of this new state of the art school which aims to establish itself as a centre of excellence for the young people and the people of Hadley.

Wearing new uniforms emblazoned with a set of Olympic like circles, representing the different schools joined as one, the children soon took charge of their new campus. The excitement of both children and teachers was palpable just prior to the opening ceremony - both getting used to their new surroundings. A very happy Dr Gill Eatough, the Principal of Hadley Learning Community said,

"I am so proud to see the realisation of all our dreams."

This Telford school has also become the focus of attention for a new series appearing on Sky Channel Teachers' TV. This fly on the wall documentary into the creation of the Hadley campus follows the Principal as she makes crucial design decisions alongside the Borough of Telford & Wrekin and Interserve.

A large gathering of teachers and council officials graced the official opening of this phase of the community school. The atmosphere was more like a close family gathering as speeches were given by leading members of the project prior to the Mayor giving his official seal of approval on the site. In a heartfelt speech the Mayor said,

"I want people to feel strongly about this place as I do. I want people to say, my son went to Hadley, I taught at Hadley, I went to Hadley with pride."

Hadley Learning Community is a school of firsts, representing a new kind of school, for a new way of teaching. The school has some work to go before the whole site is complete, both children and teachers are expecting an equally impressive gift from Interserve by Christmas this year.
