At Tapton School new buildings were provided on the existing site. The classrooms were grouped according to the thirteen departments of the school curriculum, all with good access to the Library and Learning Resource Area. Considerations were also made for the visually impaired, ensuring their inclusion in mainstream education.

All weather and grass areas were provided suitable for a variety of sporting activities. In addition, informal and social areas both paved and grassed were provided to allow for impromptu games and leisure activities as well as outdoor teaching.

The community is also encouraged to use the new facilities after school hours, fostering local involvement in the life of the school.
