The old Victorian buildings were demolished to make way for the new Fir Vale School buildings which have been designed to blend in with the adjacent residential surroundings whilst providing teaching accommodation on the original site that can respond to the changing demands of future education.

Internal and external sports facilities have been fully refurbished and an all weather pitch has been added. Other external areas have been landscaped for informal activities and impromptu games and leisure as well as for teaching activities. The circulation routes around the buildings have also incorporated spaces where students can meet, encouraging a sense of identity within the school. Use of the site by the local community has also been integrated, to include a new youth centre building.
