Ecclesfield School has had a strong identity with the local community for over 75 years, therefore the new build blocks were designed so that they complimented the existing Keppel Block and Lady Mabel Hall which were refurbished and retained.

A balance of facilities were provided to reflect consultations with the staff on the objectives of the school. General and specialised teaching areas have been positioned to allow use for more than one subject or grouping together in suites to suit the teaching preferences. The new layout of the outdoor playing fields has been designed to increase the variety of sports. Areas are also set aside for informal activities with wet habitat and garden areas. The local community has also been considered in the layout of buildings and they are encouraged to use the new facilities.
