Why is Training Important?

Over 200 people are killed each year in accidents at work and over 1 million are injured. In addition, over 2 million suffer illnesses caused by, or made worse by their work.*

As the owner or Manager, preventing accidents and ill health is a key priority because competent employees are valuable assets. It is therefore essential that you are up to date with how to identify hazards and control the risks to your employees.

Two of the most frequent causes of accidents are manual handling and contact with machinery. Investigation of these accidents reveals that inadequate training contributes significantly in their cause.

The financial cost of failure can be significant. It is estimated that over 30 million working days are lost each year due to work related ill health and injury. The total cost to employers is estimated to be between £4 billion and £9 billion per year. This is equivalent to around 5% to 10% of all UK industrial companies gross trading profits.*

Training not only helps to prevent injuries and ill health it will help to develop a positive safety culture in your organisation. It may improve the speed and quality of production and could save you money through the reduction in the number of sick days. Most importantly it is a legal requirement.
