Heathrow is the world’s busiest international airport and second busiest cargo airport, handling over 63 million passengers and approximately 1.3 million tonnes of cargo a year. The first phase of Terminal 5 is scheduled to be open for business in 2008 and, when complete, will increase annual capacity by 30 million passengers.
Interserve’s Airport Infrastructure Division was awarded the contract for projects and maintenance services by BAA estimated to be worth £10 million a year over an initial five years with the option of a two-year extension.
Interserve is the preferred maintenance contractor in all existing terminals at Heathrow, BAA’s largest airport – with an opportunity to bid for Terminal 5 once operational – where it will provide mechanical, electrical and building fabric services. Interserve will also have the opportunity to deliver work in these disciplines as a preferred bidder at Gatwick, Stansted, Southampton, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh airports.
The diversity and nature of the work has enabled the skills and resources from other Interserve entities to be utilised to provide BAA with a complete service provision. Interserve Project Services have carried out major refurbishment projects with and the skills of Interserve Retail & Interiors have been utilised to complete retail fit outs within the terminals.
