Facilities Services  >  News  >  ONS contract extension

Vital Statistics Gain Support

30 Jun 2004

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has awarded Interservefm Ltd a £14 million, two-year contract for the provision of support services in its five main sites across the United Kingdom. This is an extension to Interserve’s existing five-year contract which is due to expire in October 2005.

“Our partnership with ONS has already been independently recognised as a prime example of the public and private sectors working together effectively, and we’re proud of what we’ve achieved.” said Sam Maroli, Interservefm’s Managing Director. It won Premises and Facilities Management Journal’s environmental management award in 2002 and was a finalist (one of two and three respectively) in both the FM Business Evolution and the Environmental Impact categories in the 2003 awards presented by the British Institute of Facilities Management. The contract is also certified to ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 for its environmental management system.

The facts and figures prepared by ONS are much more than barometer of how the UK is faring across an enormously diverse set of measures; they represent the bedrock on which much government policy is based and on which many companies in the private sector build their strategies. In order to collect and analyse this information ONS maintains several key offices around the country.  Since the beginning of it’s contract with ONS in 2000 Interserve has provided a full range of facilities management services to support the running all of these offices including:

• Building Services (Planned and Reactive Maintenance)
• Catering
• Cleaning
• Customer Services (Helpdesk)
• Grounds Maintenance
• Health & Safety
• Mail & Distribution
• Projects and Security

All these services are included in the new contract and, as at present, will be delivered under Service Level Agreements with comprehensive and detailed Key Performance Indicators. These have been revised in the extended contract to reflect the nature of the partnership that has been forged.

The spirit of co-operation and commitment to ongoing improvement by both Interserve and ONS is neatly summed up by John Summerfield, Head of ONS Property: “Interserve has worked hard at delivering a customer-focused service which has had to evolve continuously to match our own internal changes, and the extension to the contract is recognition of its long-term commitment and flexible approach.”
