Interserve powers into Sierra Leone

4 Feb 2008

Interserve has been awarded a contract with the National Power Authority of Sierra Leone for supply and installation, repair and construction of the Western Area transmission and distribution network.

The contract, which continues Interserve’s successful work in Africa, was awarded due to Interserve’s exceptional team work and support. This circa £3.5 million contract includes the supply and stringing of 13km of 33kV, double circuit overhead line from steel lattice towers, including the construction and completion of missing and damaged towers; the complete construction of 11km of 11kV wood pole overhead lines, the supply/replacement, installation testing and commissioning of 5km HV copper cables, 33kV panels, a new 33/11kV transformer and other installations.

The work is to be carried out, during a 12 month period, with Interserve providing full accounting, commercial, procurement and quality support.

Interserve has been working in Malawi, South Eastern Africa, since 1996. In the last decade they have undertaken many overhead line schemes nationwide, working predominantly with ESCOM. The latest project, carried out by Interserve, was to install 132kv conductor for 270km from Nkula, a Hydro Power Station, to Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi.

Dave Troth, Interim Managing Director – Industrial, Interserve said, “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract, which shows the wide ranging capabilities of our business. To operate in such a diverse environment is a real achievement for our team, and I am proud to build our relationship within the National Power Authority of Sierra Leone.”
