The Interservefm entry related to the first electronic, web-based system to be used for environmental management in the Government estates, developed by Interservefm Ltd in conjunction with the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The entry concentrated on the level of teamwork that has been achieved between Interserve and ONS personnel and the consequent partnering philosophy that has developed. This project served to reinforce the relationship between the two organisations that had developed through the FM contract and should have ongoing benefits for all parties. The Office for National Statistics was set up on 1 April 1996 as an independent government department and an executive agency to provide both statistical and registration services. The Director of ONS is also the Registrar General for England and Wales and the National Statistician. Interservefm Ltd has been supplying facilities management services to ONS offices in London (two sites), Newport, Southport and Titchfield since 2000. Each site has a resident Interservefm facilities manager who takes responsibility for the support services, staff training and health and safety issues. In July 2000, ONS commissioned an Independent Environmental Review, which laid the groundwork for the ongoing environmental strategy. It was agreed that Interservefm Ltd would establish and implement the Environmental Management Strategy (EMS) while ONS would retain ownership of the ISO 14001 registration along with overall responsibility for its estate. In establishing the EMS, Interservefm Ltd had to take account of the Greening ONS Policy Statement, the Sustainable Government Strategy for Awareness and existing Green Action plans. |
